A special discussion on the implementation of the Ceylon Palmyrah Villages Project was held on 14 October 2026 at the Velanai Divisional Secretariat Conference Hall, Jaffna, under the leadership of Hon. Sundaralingam Pradeep, Deputy Minister.
During the meeting, constructive discussions were held on the future activities and implementation strategies of the project, along with initiatives to strengthen and develop the palmyrah industry.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Northern Provincial Tourism Bureau, Mr. R. Raveenthiran, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board, the Deputy Divisional Secretary of Velanai, palmyrah-based artisans, and other relevant stakeholders.
The discussion highlighted the importance of promoting palmyrah-based tourism, empowering local artisans, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, and strengthening community participation through the Ceylon Palmyrah Villages Project.
