An important discussion on Palmyrah Development in the Northern Province was held on 13 October 2026 at the Northern Province Governor’s Office, Jaffna.
A special discussion on reopening and reviving the Thikkam Distillery, which has remained non-operational for many years, was held on 13 October 2026 at the Auditorium of the Northern Provincial Governor’s Office. The initiative aims to improve the economic well-being, livelihoods, and employment opportunities of palmyrah workers in the Northern Province, while strengthening the regional palmyrah industry.
The special discussion was jointly chaired by Hon. Sundaralingam Pradeep, Deputy Minister; Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Minister of Fisheries; and Hon. Nagalingam Vethanayahan, Governor of the Northern Province. Mr. R. Raveenthiran, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board, along with key members of the Board of Directors and senior officials, also participated in this important discussion.
