The Madu Road Katpaham Regional Sales Outlet, operated by the Palmyrah Development Board under the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, was ceremonially declared open on 22 June 2026 at Madu Road, Mannar.

The outlet was established with the objective of promoting traditional palmyrah-based products and expanding market opportunities for rural producers, entrepreneurs, and artisans engaged in the palmyrah industry. The initiative is expected to strengthen the economic value chain of the sector while preserving Sri Lanka’s rich palmyrah heritage.

The opening ceremony was attended by religious dignitaries, government officials, representatives of the Palmyrah Development Board, local producers, and members of the public. The event commenced with religious observances followed by the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, officially marking the opening of the new sales outlet.

The Madu Road Katpaham outlet offers a diverse range of traditional palmyrah food products, including palmyrah jaggery, palm treacle, palm flour-based products, sweets, beverages, and other value-added food items. The outlet also showcases a variety of eco-friendly handicrafts and decorative items produced by skilled local artisans using palmyrah resources.

The Palmyrah Development Board continues to implement programmes aimed at improving production, value addition, product diversification, and market expansion across the country. The establishment of the Madu Road Katpaham Regional Sales Outlet is another significant step towards strengthening the palmyrah industry and making traditional products more accessible to consumers and visitors to the Mannar District.

The Board expressed confidence that the new outlet will become a popular destination for those seeking authentic palmyrah-based food products and handicrafts while contributing to the long-term development of the industry and the livelihoods of local communities.
