Organized by the Colombo Tamil Society and Palmyrah Development Board, which functions under the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, the “Tamil Culture and Palmyrah Resources” exhibition and Trade fair, featuring palmyrah-based products from the Northern and Eastern Provinces, was ceremonially inaugurated today.
The event was held at the Sankarapillai Hall of the Tamil Sangam in Wellawatte, Colombo, and was inaugurated under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, Sundaralingam Pradeep.
The event was attended by Jaffna District Members of Parliament Ilankumaran and Dr. Sri Bhavanandarajah, Batticaloa District Member of Parliament Kandasamy Prabhu, Colombo District Organizer Sivanandarajah, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board Mr. R. Raveendran, Deputy General Manager Mr. Sri Wijendran, Chief Internal Auditor of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Mr. M.G. Kandeepan, Colombo Municipal Council Member Thiruselvam, the Secretary of the Tamil Sangam, traders, members of the public, and officials of the Ministry.
Handicrafts, palmyrah jaggery, palm sugar, and various food products produced by palmyrah-based manufacturers from the Northern and Eastern regions are being displayed at the exhibition.
The exhibition and sale will be open to the public on May 08 and 09, from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., at the Sankarapillai Hall of the Tamil Sangam in Wellawatte, Colombo.
