Organized by the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities and the Palmyrah Development Board, a certificate awarding ceremony for those who successfully completed the Palmyrah-based handicraft training program was held today (09.11.2025) at the Trincomalee Pradeshiya Sabha Hall, under the supervision of the Trincomalee branch of the Palmyrah Development Board.
The event was held under the chairmanship of Mr. R. Raveenthiran, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board, with Hon. Sundaralingam Pradeep, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities, serving as the Chief Guest, and Hon. Arun Hemachandra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, attending as the Special Guest.
Also in attendance were the Additional District Secretary of Trincomalee, Divisional Secretary, Mr. Sivanesan, Co-ordinating Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. S. Srivijeindran, General Manager of the Palmyrah Development Board, several senior officials and staff members of the Board, along with Trincomalee district officers, trainers, and artisans.
Certificates were awarded to over 200 trained beneficiaries, and equipment was distributed to promote the growth of Palmyrah-based cottage industries. The Deputy Minister also engaged in discussions with the participants, listening to their needs and challenges, and provided necessary guidance and instructions to the Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board for further action.
