At the Mamunai North Divisional Secretariat in the Batticaloa District, the month of October was declared as the “Palmyrah Seed Planting Month.”

Through the Palmyrah Development Board’s Palmyrah Seed Planting Project, a total of one million (1,000,000) palmyrah seeds have been planted so far in the coastal area of Paalameenmadu, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mamunai North Divisional Council, according to the Batticaloa Regional Coordinator.

As a continuation of this initiative, a program to plant an additional 250 Palmyrah seeds was inaugurated today (18.10.2025) at the same coastal site, with the participation of senior officers and staff from the Palmyrah Development Board serving across the island.

The event was graced by the Batticaloa Regional Coordinator and his office staff, along with the Development Manager, Production Manager, Acting Extension Manager, Acting Research Manager, and the Jaffna Regional Coordinator. Many officers and employees from Jaffna and other districts also participated in the seed planting activity, marking the commencement of this phase of the project.
