The month of October has been declared as the “Palmyrah Seed Planting Month” at the Karaveddy Divisional Secretariat in the Jaffna District.

Through funds allocated from the Palmyrah Development Board’s capital fund, 8,000 palmyrah seeds will be planted within the Karaveddy Divisional Secretariat area. As the first phase, a program to plant 4,000 palmyrah seeds on state land in Maththony village was officially launched today (14.10.2025).

The event was attended by the Divisional Secretary of Karaveddy, his office staff, the Grama Niladhari officer, the Regional Coordinator of the Palmyrah Development Board (Jaffna), field staff, board employees, and the residents of Maththony village, who enthusiastically participated by planting palmyrah seeds to inaugurate the program.

This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting the growth of palmyrah trees and serves as a community effort contributing to environmental conservation.
