DESCRIPTION:The National Exhibition 2026 for Palmyrah Products\, organized under the theme “Palmyrah is the Tree of Life and the Prosperity of the Nation”\, commenced today (07.08.2026) at the Vavuniya Municipal Council Grounds and Cultural Hall. \n\n\n\nOrganized by the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure and coordinated by the Palmyrah Development Board\, the exhibition was officially inaugurated at 9.00 a.m. today at the Vavuniya Municipal Council Grounds by Hon. Samantha Vithyarathna\, Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition has been organized with the objectives of promoting the wider utilization of palmyrah resources\, encouraging value addition to palmyrah-based products\, expanding market opportunities for producers\, and introducing to the public the research\, innovations and new developments being carried out in the palmyrah sector. \n\n\n\nA wide range of palmyrah-based products are being displayed and made available for sale at the exhibition. In addition\, visitors are provided with information on new products developed using palmyrah resources\, value-added products\, and ongoing research projects in the palmyrah sector. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition highlights the economic\, social and industrial significance of the palmyrah resource while providing an important platform to promote palmyrah-based entrepreneurs and producers and to create wider market opportunities for their products. \n\n\n\nHon. Upali Samarasinghe\, Deputy Minister of Cooperatives; Mr. Sarath Chandra\, District Secretary/Government Agent of Vavuniya; Prof. A. Atputharajah\, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya; the Secretary to the Ministry\, and representatives of government and non-government institutions\, officials\, producers and members of the public participated in the event. \n\n\n\nThe event was also attended by Mr. R. Raveenthiran\, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board; Mr. S. Yasindhan\, General Manager; Dr. S. Srivijeindran\, Deputy General Manager; senior management officials of the Board\, regional coordinators\, and district-level officers and staff of the Palmyrah Development Board\, who contributed to the organization and successful implementation of the exhibition. \n\n\n\nThe National Palmyrah Products Exhibition will be held from 07 to 09 August 2026 at the Vavuniya Municipal Council Grounds and Cultural Hall. \n\n\n\nUnder the theme “Palmyrah is the Tree of Life and the Prosperity of the Nation\,” the exhibition serves as an important platform to further strengthen the contribution of palmyrah resources to the economic development of the country and the improvement of livelihoods\, while promoting innovation\, entrepreneurship and sustainable utilization of this valuable national resource. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUnveiling the Timeless Heritage of Palmyrah \n\n\n\nEmpowering communities\, inspiring the world\, and celebrating the enduring legacy\, resilience and boundless potential of the Palmyrah palm.

DESCRIPTION:The National Exhibition\, organized by the Palmyrah Development Board\, operating under the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure\, is being held at the Vavuniya Municipal Council Auditorium under the theme “Palmyrah – The Tree of Life and Prosperity of the Nation”\, in line with the national policy framework “A Wealthy Country – A Beautiful Life.” \n\n\n\nOn the second day of the exhibition\, yesterday (08 August 2026)\, the Hon. Deputy Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure\, Hon. Sundaralingam Pradeep participated as the Chief Guest\, and Batticaloa District Member of Parliament Hon. Kanthasamy Prabu participated as the Special Guest. \n\n\n\nThe event was also attended by Mr. R. Raveenthiran\, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board; Mr. S. Yasindhan\, General Manager; Dr. S. SUMMARY:Opening of the “Katpaham” Palmyrah-Based Products Purchasing and Sales Centre in Neduntheevu
DESCRIPTION:With the objective of preserving the traditional value of palmyrah resources\, expanding market opportunities for palmyrah-based products\, and strengthening the economic advancement of palmyrah producers\, the “Katpaham” – Palmyrah-Based Products Procurement and Sales Centre of the Palmyrah Development Board was officially opened at the Market Building Complex\, Neduntheevu Centre\, on 28 August 2026 at 10.30 a.m. \n\n\n\nThe ceremony was held under the leadership of Mr. R. Raveenthiran\, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board. Hon. K. Ilankumaran\, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Neduntheevu Divisional Coordinating Committee\, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. N. Prabhakaran\, Divisional Secretary of Neduntheevu\, participated as the Special Guest\, while Mr. S. Sathiyavarathan\, Chairman of the Neduntheevu Pradeshiya Sabha\, and Mr. K. Nandakumar\, Chairman of the Neduntheevu Palmyrah and Coconut Resources Development Cooperative Society\, attended as Guests of Honour. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, key representatives of the area\, officials of the Palmyrah Development Board\, palmyrah-based producers\, representatives of the cooperative sector\, and members of the public participated in the opening ceremony. \n\n\n\nThe newly established “Katpaham” Procurement and Sales Centre is expected to function as an important commercial hub providing sustainable market opportunities for a wide range of products manufactured in Neduntheevu and surrounding areas\, including palmyrah-based food products\, value-added products\, and handicrafts. In particular\, the Centre will facilitate the procurement of quality products directly from local palmyrah producers and make them available to consumers\, thereby strengthening market linkages between producers and consumers. \n\n\n\nThe Centre is also expected to play an important role in promoting local palmyrah-based entrepreneurs\, improving the livelihoods of small and medium-scale producers\, enhancing value addition in palmyrah products\, and expanding sustainable economic activities based on palmyrah resources. The opening of the “Katpaham” Sales Centre in Neduntheevu marks another significant milestone in the development initiatives of the Palmyrah Development Board. \n\n\n\nThrough such market expansion initiatives\, the Palmyrah Development Board continues to create improved market opportunities for palmyrah-based producers while contributing to the sustainable development of the palmyrah sector and the national economy.

DESCRIPTION:The Palmyrah Development Board (PDB) participated in the NITE 2026 – Northern International Trade Exhibition\, held from 28–30 August 2026 at the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre\, Jaffna\, showcasing its special Sales Stall and Research Exhibition Stall. \n\n\n\nUnder the concept “From the North to the World – A New Market Journey for Palmyrah Resources\,” the Board highlighted its efforts to combine traditional palmyrah resources with innovation\, research\, value addition\, entrepreneurship and market development. \n\n\n\nThe Sales Stall featured a range of palmyrah-based food products\, value-added products and handicrafts\, providing visitors with opportunities to explore and purchase locally produced items. The Research Exhibition Stall showcased new product developments\, research outcomes\, value-addition technologies and innovative production initiatives aimed at advancing the palmyrah sector. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition also provided entrepreneurs with valuable information on business development\, production improvement\, marketing\, and local and export market opportunities. \n\n\n\nThrough its participation in NITE 2026\, the Palmyrah Development Board reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the heritage of palmyrah resources while promoting innovation\, entrepreneurship\, value addition and sustainable economic opportunities for the sector.
